K dispozici je první veřejnou beta verza Linux Mint 21 s kódovým označením „Vanessa“. Vznikl repozitář Lubuntu Backports PPA, který má uživatelům poskytovat nejnovější verze prostředí LXQt.

Je možné stahovat první veřejnou beta verzi Linux Mint 21 s kódovým označením „Vanessa“. Toto připravované vydání bude postaveno na Ubuntu 22.04 LTS a bude obsahovat většinu jeho komponent včetně linuxového jádra ve verzi 5.15, nejnovější grafické ovladače a aktuální verze balíčků a knihoven.

Na rozdíl od Ubuntu ale nepoužívá kontroverzní službu systemd-oom, která kvůli uvolnění paměti ukončuje běžící procesy. Linux Mint jako hlavní prostředí používá Cinnamon 5.4 s vlastním správcem oken Muffin, který pro novou verzi kompletně přepracoval. Nové funkce dostal i správce souborů Nemo. Stabilní vydání Linux Mint 21 by mělo být k dispozici na konci tohoto července nebo na začátku srpna.

Lubuntu Backports PPA

Simon Quigley, vývojář linuxové distribuce Lubuntu informoval o vytvoření repozitáře Lubuntu Backports PPA, který má uživatelům poskytovat nejnovější verze prostředí LXQt. Tento repozitář byl vytvořen na přání uživatelů po vzoru sesterského projektu Kubuntu, který umožňuje mít tu nejaktuálnější verzi Ubuntu spolu s nejaktuálnější verzí prostředí KDE Plasma.

Pro lepší pochopení, poslední verze Lubuntu 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish) používá ve výchozí instalaci prostředí LXQt 0.17.0, tento nový repozitář umožní aktualizaci na nejnovější verzi LXQt 1.1.0.

Google a jeho interní linuxová distribuce

Vývojáři od Googlu se na blogu rozepsali o interní linuxové distribuci používané ve společnosti. Dříve firma používala Goobuntu, což byla upravená verze Ubuntu s dlouhodobou podporou. Jeho nasazení bylo ukončeno s verzi 14.04 LTS a od roku 2017 došlo k přechodu na gLinux Rodete (Rolling Debian Testing). Jedná se o průběžně aktualizovanou linuxovou distribuci postavenou na Debianu s vlastními automatizovanými sestaveními balíčků.

Klávesnice Launch Lite

Společnost System76 prodávající počítače s předinstalovaným Pop!_OS nebo Ubuntu přibližně před rokem představila svou otevřenou konfigurovatelnou klávesnici Launch. Nedávno byla představena její odlehčená a levnější varianta Launch Lite. Ta je na rozdíl od předchozí verze menší a stojí jen 199 amerických dolarů (4800 korun), zatímco velká verze stojí 285 (6900 Kč).

Jay Flood oznámil vydání Porteus 5.0, nové verze živé distribuce postavené na Slackware Linuxu. Operační systém pro routery BSDRP (BSD Router Project) vyšel ve verzi 1.991. Byl vydán Debian 11.4, opravná verze jedenáctého vydání této linuxové distribuce. Minimalistická distribuce Snal Linux se správcem oken i3 oznámila vydání verze 1.19.
