Vývojáři Ubuntu se snaží zrychlit Snap. Desktopové prostředí GNOME 41 je dostupné v repozitářích openSUSE. Vývojáři operačního systému Haiku začali práci na portování ovladačů Mesa Radeon Vulkan. Otevřený operační systém Sculpt OS založený na frameworku Genode vydal svou novou verzi.

Ubuntu zrychluje Snap

Snap se snaží nabízet univerzální formát balíčků a je integrován do některých linuxových distribucí včetně Ubuntu. Jedna z kritik, které se na tento projekt snáší, je kvůli pomalému načítání při startu. S tím se vývojáři Ubuntu rozhodli něco udělat. Igor Ljubuncic nedávno zveřejnil na svém blogu, co všechno je potřeba podniknout, aby se podařilo Snap zrychlit.

GNOME 41 v repozitářích openSUSE

Vývojář Dominique Leuenberger zveřejnil souhrnnou zprávu, ve která informuje o posledních novinkách ve vývoji linuxové distribuce openSUSE Tumbleweed. Mezi nejdůležitější novinky patří dostupnost prostřední GNOME 41 včetně všech jeho aplikací. Dalšími novinkami jsou prohlížeč Mozilla Firefox 93, kancelářský balík LibreOffice 7.2.2 nebo linuxové jádro 5.14.

Port Mesa Radeon Vulkan na Haiku

Po úspěšné implementaci grafických ovladačů Lavapipe Vulkan na operační systém Haiku vývojáři začali práci na portování ovladačů Mesa Radeon Vulkan. Vývojář Haiku „X512“ strávil několik posledních týdnů ve snaze rozjet tento otevřený grafický ovladač na tomto duchovním pokračovateli operačního systéme BeOS. Ten se také na diskusním fóru vyjádřil, že po dokončení práce na ovladačích pro AMD Radeon se hodlá pustit do práce na ovladačích pro grafické karty od firmy Intel.

Haiku R1 Beta 3

Sculpt OS 21.10

Sculpt OS je operační systém založený na frameworku Genode. Každý program (včetně ovladačů) běží ve vlastním sandboxu, přičemž framework  zajišťuje pouze komunikaci mezi nimi. Nyní vyšla nová verze Sculpt OS 21.10, která nově podporuje hardwarovou akceleraci u grafických karet od Intelu, přehrávání médií ve webovém prohlížeči, USB kamery a VirtualBox 6.

Vyšel Devuan GNU+Linux 4.0.0, fork Debianu bez systemd. DragonFlyBSD, operační systém vycházející z FreeBSD oznámil vydání verze 6.0.1. Islandská minimalistická linuxová distribuce Archcraft vyšla ve verzi 2021.10.05. Distribuce navazující na ukončený projekt QiLinux openmamba GNU/Linux vydala novou verzi s číslem 20211012.
