Společnost Red Hat prodlužuje životnost RHEL 7 na 14 let. Ubuntu 24.10, které vyjde v říjnu 2024, dostalo kódové jméno „Oracular Oriole“. Distribuce Garuda Linux se dočkala nové hlavní verze 240428 s KDE Plasma 6.

Red Hat prodlužuje životnost RHEL

Poté, co společnost Canonical oznámila 12 let prodloužené podpory pro verze Ubuntu s dlouhodobou podporou (LTS), se společnost Red Hat rozhodla nabídnout až 14 let podpory pro Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) verze 7. S blížícím se koncem standardního desetiletého životního cyklu RHEL 7 některé IT organizace zjišťují, že nemohou dokončit plánované migrace před 30. červnem 2024.

Aby společnost Red Hat podpořila IT týmy v době, kdy budou dohánět své migrační plány, oznámila jednorázové prodloužení období údržby pro RHEL 7 o čtyři roky. Red Hat rovněž plánuje prodloužit podporu pro verze 8 a 9 RHEL o další tři roky.

Ubuntu 24.10 bude „Oracular Oriole“

Přestože Ubuntu 24.04 LTS bylo teprve nedávno vydáno, vývojáři již začínají vytvářet základ, na kterém bude postaveno další krátkodobé vydání oblíbené linuxové distribuce. Ubuntu 24.10 bude vydáno v říjnu 2024 a po vydání obdrží 9 měsíců aktualizací.

Samozřejmě, jak všichni víme: každé nové vydání Ubuntu dostane své vlastní kódové označení složené z přídavného jména a zvířete (skutečného nebo mytického). Pro Ubuntu 24.10 se rozhodli pro „Oracular Oriole“, což se dá volně přeložit do češtiny jako věštecká či prorocká žluva.

Garuda Linux s KDE Plasma 6

Distribuce Garuda Linux založená na Arch Linuxu se dočkala nové hlavní verze 240428 s kódovým označením „Bird of Prey“, která konečně přináší nejnovější řadu desktopového prostředí KDE Plasma 6, ale také přidává řadu dalších vylepšení. Pro stávající uživatele Garuda Linuxu vývojáři také aktualizovali nástroj pro údržbu systému Garuda s možností migrace edice s KDE Plasma 5 na nejnovější desktopové prostředí KDE Plasma 6 při zachování jedinečného vzhledu Garuda Plasma.

Kromě toho byl prohlížeč FireDragon přebudován na prohlížeč Floorp, instalační program Calamares získal aktualizované snímky pro modernější vzhled a systém sestavení pro úložiště Garuda obdržel významné aktualizace.

Tuxedo Stellaris 17 Gen6

Po deseti měsících od uvedení notebooku Tuxedo Stellaris 17 Gen5, který byl vybaven nejrychlejším hardwarem pro notebooky na světě, přichází šestá generace notebooku Tuxedo Stellaris 17, která je nyní poháněna procesorem Intel Core i9–14900HX s 24 jádry, 32 vlákny, 36 MB cache, 55 W TDP, taktem až 5,8 GHz a grafickou kartou Intel UHD Graphics.

Zbytek specifikací se oproti 5. generaci nezměnil, včetně samostatné grafické karty až NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 s 16 GB GDDR6 VRAM, 17palcového matného displeje s poměrem stran 16:10, obnovovací frekvencí 240 Hz a jasem 380 nitů, operační paměti DDR5 5600 MHz až 64 GB a úložiště M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 SSD až 8 TB.

Dodáván je s předinstalovanou linuxovou distribucí Tuxedo OS založenou na Ubuntu s nejnovějším grafickým prostředím KDE Plasma 6, případně s Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. Jeho cena začíná na 2099 eur (52600 korun).

Nově vydáno

Vývojáři svobodného operačního systému NetBSD oznámili vydání aktualizace s číslem 9.4. Bryan Poerwo oznámil vydání systému EndeavourOS 2024.04.20 s kódovým označením „Gemini“, který je významnou aktualizací desktopové linuxové distribuce  založené na Arch Linuxu. Vyšel RISC OS 5.30, nejnovější stabilní verze nezávisle vyvinutého počítačového operačního systému, který byl původně navržen v roce 1987. Komunitně vyvíjená linuxová distribuce Fedora vyšla ve verzi 40.

Netýká. CentOSu se tahle prodloužená podpora netýkala ani u předchozích verzí. Vždy to byla placená služba u RHELu. Prodlouženou podporu k CentOSu nabízí např. Tuxcare, ale i ten za to chce peníze.
