Distribuce AlmaLinux už nebude kopií Red Hat Enterprise Linuxu (RHEL). Vývoj pracovního prostředí COSMIC DE pokračuje. Tým společnosti Red Hat prodloužil podporu ELS pro RHEL 7 o 4 roky.

AlmaLinux nebude kopírovat RHEL

Pokud jste to během letní dovolené nezaznamenali, tak společnost Red Hat oznámila omezení přístupu ke zdrojovým kódům své komerční distribuce Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). AlmaLinux OS Foundation rozhodla, že distribuce AlmaLinux už nebude usilovat o to, aby byl přesnou kopii RHELu, ale aby byla s RHELem binárně kompatibilní.

Pro uživatele se téměř nic nemění a aplikace, které běží na RHELu poběží nadále i na Alma Linuxu. Rozdíl bude v tom, že aktualizace a opravy chyb v Alma Linuxu už nebudou kopírovat vývojový cyklus RHELu a budou aplikovány průběžně.

COSMIC DE dostává nové funkce

COSMIC DE je pracovní prostředí vyvíjené společností System76 v programovacím jazyce Rust. System76 má svou vlastní linuxovou distribuci Pop!_OS, pro kterou toto prostředí primárně vyvíjí. Vývojáři nedávno provedli několik zajímavých triků při změně velikosti oken v dlaždicovém režimu, rozdělili subsystémy oznámení do samostatných vláken, přidali automatickou změnu velikosti ovládacích prvků v závislosti na velikosti monitoru a přidali spoustu dalších vylepšení.

RHEL 7 prodlužuje podporu ELS

Zákazníci Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), kteří stále používají verzi 7 této distribuce, dostali dobrou zprávu. Tým společnosti Red Hat prodloužil podporu pro RHEL 7. Původně měla verze RHEL 7 končit s podporou na konci června 2024, ale lhůta pro Extended Lifecycle Support (ELS) byla prodloužena o čtyři roky do roku 2028.

Standardní životní cyklus každého vydání je 10 let, podle vyjádření společnosti ale některé IT organizace nestihnou dokončit své plánované migrace před 30. červnem 2024. Aby podpořila IT týmy při dohonění jejich plánů na migrace, oznámila společnost Red Hat jednorázové prodloužení údržby pro RHEL 7.

Star Labs představil Byte Mk II

Britský prodejce hardwaru s předinstalovaným Linuxem Star Labs představil Byte Mk II, druhou generaci svého open source mini počítače. Je poháněn čtyřjádrovým procesorem Intel „Alder Lake“ N200 s frekvencí 1,00 GHz a technologií Turbo Boost až 3,70 GHz, 6 MB smart cache, 6 W TDP, 25 W PL2, čtyři jádra, čtyři vlákna a grafikou Intel UHD.

K dispozici je také až 16 GB DDR4 RAM s frekvencí 3200 MHz a až 2 TB M2 2280 SSD úložiště (rozšiřitelné až na 6 TB). Vybrat si můžete mezi nejnovějšími verzemi distribucí Ubuntu, elementary OS, Linux Mint, Manjaro Linux, MX Linux nebo Zorin OS. Cena tohoto počítače začíná od 452 dolarů (9 tisíc korun).

Nově vydáno

Malá desktopová distribuce Fatdog64 Linux vydala novou verzi s číslem 814. Na Debianu postavená distribuce Q4OS s prosředími KDE Plasma a Trinity vyšla ve verzi 5.2. Solus, linuxová distribuce s vlastním správcem balíčků vydala po dvou letech další stabilní verzi 4.4. K dispozici je třetí vydání na Arch Linuxu postavené, průběžně aktualizované distribuce blendOS.
