Projekt GNOME zruší jak dopřednou, tak zpětnou kompatibilitu rozšíření. Fedora Linux 40 přijde s prostředím KDE Plasma 6 na Waylandu s tím, že Fedora nadobro opustí X11. Vývojáři openSUSE představili novou distribuci openSUSE Slowroll.

GNOME mění politiku pro rozšíření

Projekt GNOME mění způsob fungování rozšíření. Tato změna zruší jak dopřednou, tak zpětnou kompatibilitu. Rozšíření, která jsou určena pro starší verze GNOME, nebudou fungovat v GNOME 45. Stejně tak rozšíření, která jsou přizpůsobena pro práci s GNOME 45, nebudou fungovat ve starších verzích. 

Vývojáři sice stále můžou podporovat více než jednu verzi GNOME, ale budou muset nahrát různé verze na oficiální stránku s rozšířeními pro podporu před a po verzi 45.

Fedora Linux 40 bez X11

Zatímco Fedora Linux 39 je stále ve vývoji, Fedora Project zveřejnila navrhovanou změnu pro příští rok vydání Fedora Linux 40. Hlavní připravovanou změnou bude prostředí KDE Plasma 6 na Waylandu s tím, že Fedora nadobro opustí X11. Fedora Linux KDE Spin již ve výchozím nastavení používá Plasma Wayland, ale uživatelé, kteří mají  problémy s Waylandem mohou přepnout na X11.

Fedora Linux 40, která by měla vyjít v květnu 2024, což zapadá do vývojového cyklu KDE Plasma 6, které pravděpodobně uvidí světlo světa někdy na jaře 2024 s portací na Qt 6 a KDE Frameworks 6.

openSUSE Slowroll

Vývojáři openSUSE představili novou distribuci openSUSE Slowroll. Je založena na průběžně aktualizované distribuci openSUSE Tumbleweed, jen s pomalejším a stabilnějším tempem vývoje a aktualizací.

Co se rychlosti vývoje týká, dalo by se říct, že se nachází někde mezi Tumbleweed a Leap. Aktualizace by měly probíhat jednou za měsíc nebo za dva s tím, že opravy chyb a bezpečnostní záplaty budou implementovány hned, jakmile přijdou.

Linuxový tablet Librem 11

Společnost Purism oznámila svůj první vstup na trh s tablety představením modelu Librem 11. Jedenáctipalcový tablet používá firmwarovou technologii PureBoot se zabezpečením a zaměřením na ochranu soukromí a je dodáván s operačním systémem PureOS založeným na Debianu.

Co se hardwaru týče, tak tablet disponuje 11,5palcovým displejem AMOLED (2560×1600 @ 60Hz) procesorem Intel N5100 CPU (čtyřjádro @ 1,1GHz), grafikou Intel UHD Graphics, pamětí 8 GB LPDDR4 (napevno osazené) a 1TB úložištěm NVMe. Jeho cena je 999 dolarů včetně dopravy (23 tisíc korun).

Nově vydáno

Vyšel Linux Lite 6.6, nová verze na Ubuntu LTS postavená distribuce s prostředím Xfce. Philip Müller oznámil vydání Manjaro Linux 23.0 s GNOME 44, KDE Plasma 5.27 LTS, Xfce 4.18 a linuxovým jádrem 6.5. Na Slackwaru postavená distribuce Zenwalk GNU Linux vyšla ve verzi 230909. Minimalistická distribuce Fatdog64 Linux vydala novou verzi s číslem 900.
