Dvěma nadšencům se povedlo nabootovat linuxové jádro na Apple iPad Air 2. Legendární hra Doom byla portována na coreboot. DragonFly BSD nově umožňuje přidat popisy síťových rozhraní. Americká společnost System76 otevře distribuční centrum v Evropě.

Válí se vám někde doma nevyužitý iPad Air 2? Možná už brzy na tomto tabletu z roku 2014 budete moci provozovat Linux. Dvěma linuxovým nadšencům se totiž nedávno povedlo nabootovat linuxové jádro ve verzi 5.18 na tomto tabletu od firmy Apple.

Použili k tomu postmarketOS, na Alpine Linuxu postavenou distribuci určenou primárně pro zařízení s Androidem. Jedná se zatím o první krok v portaci Linuxu na zařízení, které bylo navrženo pro operační systémy pouze od Applu a na úplnou podporu si ještě chvíli počkáme.

Doom v corebootu

Vyšel coreboot 4.17, nové vydání svobodné náhrady UEFI a BIOSu. Asi jeho nejzajímavější novinkou je, že do něj byla portována legendární hra Doom. Jedná se o projekt coreDOOM, který vychází ze zdrojových kódů doomgeneric.

Mezi další novinky patří přidání dvanácti a odebrání dvou podporovaných základních desek, oprava spousty chyb včetně jedné vážně ohrožující bezpečnost a aktualizace SeaBIOS na verzi 1.16.0.

DragonFly BSD umí pojmenovat síťová rozhraní

Tvůrci svobodného operačního systému DragonFly BSD představili novou funkci, která uživatelům umožňuje přidat popisy síťových rozhraní. To zjednoduší administrátorům identifikaci síťového rozhraní, které je právě používáno bez nutnosti zdlouhavého hledání v dokumentaci. Není už proto potřeba mít síť pojmenovanou jako „ETH0“.

System76 otevře distribuční centrum v Evropě

Americká společnost System76, která vyrábí počítače s vlastním otevřeným operačním systémem Pop!_OS oznámila, že otevře distribuční centrum v Evropě. Až doposud byly všechny objednávky expedovány z centrálního skladu umístěného v Denveru, nyní se ale ředitel společnosti Jeremy Soller vyjádřil, že bude v nejbližších měsících otevřeno distribuční centrum v Evropě. To by mělo snížit náklady na dopravu a snížit tak ceny evropským zákazníkům. O konkrétní lokaci se zatím jedná, s největší pravděpodobností bude v Nizozemí.

Nově vydáno

Jerry Bezencon oznámil vydání Linux Lite 6.0, nové verze na Ubuntu postavené distribuce, která cílí na linuxové začátečníky. Na Debianu postavená čínská distribuce deepin vyšla ve verzi 20.6. Na architekturu ARM specializovaná Linuxová distribuce Armbian oznámila vydání verze 22.05.1. Na Arch Linuxu postavená distribuce s prostředím Openbox ArchLabs Linux je k dispozici ve verzi 2022.06.01.
