GhostBSD 21.04.27 přešlo na FreeBSD 13.0-STABLE

Operační systém GhostBSD má novou verzi instalačních obrazů. Novinkou je přechod základu systému od FreeBSD 12.2-STABLE na novější verzi 13.0-STABLE. To si vyžádalo navíc jistou analýzu a opravu v kódu služeb OpenRC, devd a ovladačů, implementace těchto služeb nefungovaly korektně a bylo nutné vytvořit rc.devmatch jako náhradní implementaci za OpenRC devmatch.conf pro devd. Devmatch se nyní spouští v pořádku, všechny ovladače se správně načítají atd.

Dále tvůrci odstranili všechny vlastní dodatečné změny jádra, pročež se jádro systému stalo menším. Autokonfigurace síťových karet byla odstraněna z NetworkMgr a přesunuta do podoby skriptu spouštěného pomocí devd. Z dalších věcí je zmíněna podpora dotykových obrazovek, OpenZFS 2.0 (včetně podpory v instalátoru), přítomnost nových a aktualizace starších ZFS služeb a také nové téma ikon.

Xiaomi používá tekutou čočku od Nextlens

Nejnovější telefon Xiaomi Mix skýtá revoluční inovaci v oblasti fotoaparátu, o které se mluví už delší dobu. Je jí tekutá čočka v optické soustavě. Za jejím vývojem stojí švýcarská společnost Nextlens, což je dceřinka Optotune, která vyrábí tekuté čočky pro průmyslové použití. Technologie Nextlens podporuje ostření rychlostí kolem 5 tisícin sekundy a už od vzdálenost zhruba 2 cm od objektu.

Herní výkon Ubuntu 21.04, Wayland vs X.Org

Phoronix porovnal herní výkon posledního vydání Ubuntu 21.04 při použití X.Org a Waylandu. Povětšinou lze říci, že výkon na Waylandu je lepší, ale o nepříliš zajímavý kus. Jedinou výjimkou, kdy dával vyšší výkon X.Org, byla Civilizace VI. Obecně ale platí, že rozdíly jsou poměrně malé až zanedbatelné.

Linux 5.13 vylepší Ext4, XFS i exFAT

Různá vylepšení souborových systémů v budoucím vydání jádra Linux 5.13 nejsou ničím překvapivým. Vedle stálice v podobě btrfs, kterému se věnuje značné úsilí už řadu let, nabídne pět-třináctka některá vylepšení i pro jiné souborové systémy. Čekat tak můžeme například možnost zapnout u Ext4 současně case-folding i šifrování. Ext4 navíc bude nově explicitně přepisovat nulami záznamy mazaných souborů z adresářů. Očekávat můžeme i určité zvýšení výkonu.

V rámci XFS se nadále pracuje na podpoře možnost zmenšování diskového oddílu, ač půjde i nadále o pracovní verzi nevhodnou pro ostré nasazení. XFS také nabídne jistý nárůst výkonu. U souborového systému exFAT zase čekejme vyšší výkon v zápisu při použití volby dirsync, podporu FITRIM ioctl či opravu nakládání s volbou DISCARD.

Podpora HDMI VRR v AMDGPU a další grafické novinky

Do jádra 5.13 také míří podpora procesorů Alder Lake S od Intelu. Tato 10nm desktop generace přijde na trh koncem roku, nyní ji Intel zajišťuje její podporu, plus navíc zaslal do jádra části kódu pro běh s pamětmi DDR5/LPDDR5. Taktéž pracuje na podpoře své samostatné grafické karty DG1/Xe.

Do AMDGPU vedle obligátní velké várky vylepšení (týkajících se např. výkonu a spotřeby) konečně zamířila i podpora HDMI VRR. Bohužel zatím jen pro karty s HDMI 2.0 či nižším, neboť podporu pro HDMI 2.1 aktivně blokuje HDMI Forum.

S Raspberry Pi 4 bude možné využívat HDMI CEC (Consumer Electronic Controls). V rámci DRM kódu obecně zde najdeme práci na podpoře nakládání s DisplayID. Dále Linux 5.13 přinese obecný ovladač pro Generic USB display driver. To a vše další shrnuje Phoronix.

Audacity nově pod křídly čerstvě založené Muse Group

Před pár dny byla založena Muse Group. Pod tímto uskupením najdeme věci jako MuseScore, MuseClass či Ultimate Guitar a Tonebridge. Do skupiny ale také patří projekt nejznámějšího open-source zvukového editoru Audacity. V rámci Muse Group nyní probíhá i nábor vývojářů, mezi nimiž se hledají i lidé, kteří umí C++ a chtěli by se podílet na vývoji Audacity.
