Projekt Debian oznámil zahájení kampaně na pozici vedoucího projektu. Výroční hlasování se uskuteční v dubnu. Letos jsou dva kandidáti: Andreas Tille a Sruthi Chandranová. Jejich programy jsou představeny na webových stránkách Debianu a hlasování bude probíhat od 6. do 19. dubna

Tilleho kampaň se zaměřuje na snižování překážek pro vývojáře a oslovení nové generace přispěvatelů Debianu, aby si Debian udržel zdravou členskou základnu a relevantní projekt. Také se chce snažit navázat kontakt s dalšími distribucemi. Chandranová se hodlá zaměřit na diverzitu, propagaci a zjednodušení účetnictví.

Canonical prodlouží podporu LTS na 12 let

Dlouhodobá podpora vydání Ubuntu se ještě prodloužila. Canonical totiž oznámil, že platící uživatelé mají nárok na bezpečnostní pokrytí až 12 let od prvního vydání. Každé vydání Ubuntu LTS získává 5 let standardních bezpečnostních aktualizací. Předplatné Ubuntu Pro přidává dalších 5 let bezpečnostního pokrytí pro balíčky v repozitářích main i universe.

Nyní je k dispozici Legacy Support, což je zakoupitelný doplněk pro zákazníky Ubuntu Pro. Ten nabízí další 2 roky pokrytí, čímž se celková doba podpory LTS pro Ubuntu 14.04 LTS a vyšší zvýší na 12 let od vydání.

Fedora Linux 40 Beta

Projekt Fedora oznámil vydání beta verze připravovaného operačního systému Fedora Linux 40. Ten je poháněn nejnovějším linuxovým jádrem 6.8 a přináší nedávno vydané desktopové prostředí GNOME 46 ve vlajkové edici Fedora Workstation a také nejnovější desktopové prostředí KDE Plasma 6 ve Fedora KDE Spin. Konečné vydání systému Fedora Linux 40 se očekává na konci dubna nebo začátkem května 2024.

Josué Vicente oznámil vydání Regata OS 24.0.0, velké aktualizace na openSUSE postavené linuxové distribuce se zaměřením na hráče. Peropesis, minimalistická linuxová distribuce ovládaná pouze z příkazové řádky vyšla ve verzi 2.4. Na Ubuntu postavená, průběžně aktualizovaná distribuce MakuluLinux oznámila nové vydání s číslem 2024–03–18. Vyšlo NetBSD 10.0 s mnohem lepší podporou hardwaru a vyšším výkonem.
